An Overview of Bathtub History

For thousands of years, the bathtub has been an integral part of people’s daily lives.  The history of bathtubs is quite interesting. In the past, these tubs were more like huge pools where people could congregate.  They would get clean while discussing politics and whatever else occurred to them.  As society changed, so did the bathtub.  While still a place to bathe the body, bathtubs also became more of an individual place to relax for a bit.  The large pool like tub gave way to their smaller, yet still substantial cast iron and free standing claw footed tubs.  Depending on the décor of your home, you might long for a claw footed tub, but you should know they are very heavy and, in many cases costly.

For a while, the bathtub gave way to the shower, as so many people find that showers are more functional for daily living.  Now, however, the bathtub is back and trendier than ever.  Why?  For one, people recognize the healing power of warm water and soaking their sore, tired and stressed bodies for a while.  Taking a bath offers a quiet time for a person to just lie back, relax and close their eyes.

Another reason for the resurgence of the popularity of bathtubs is the many different styles, brands and costs of them available to the public these days.  Bathrooms and bathroom designs are big business because everyone wants to have their total spa like retreat.  In fact, if you go to any home improvement store, such as Lowe’s, Home Depot, or Menards, you will find a huge selection of not only bathtubs, but bathtub accessories and people who are able and willing to install just about anything you have in mind for your special space.  They carry the best brands not only in tubs, but fixtures as well, such as Kohler, American Standard and Jacuzzi.
